Get Smart About Antibiotics Week

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Careful Antibiotic Use (SC CAUse) campaign is participating with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work campaign during the national “Get Smart About Antibiotics Week”. The purpose of the week is to focus on this week with partners to encourage the public and healthcare providers to learn more about antibiotic resistance and the importance of careful and appropriate antibiotic use and prescribing.
Objectives
- To decrease inappropriate prescribing of antibiotics for viral infections
- To help parents understand that antibiotics are not always indicated for respiratory illness and that they should discuss alternative treatment options with their healthcare provider.
