Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Resources

Diseases of the heart and stroke – the principal components of cardiovascular disease – are the 1st and 3rd leading causes of death in the United States, accounting for more than 40% of all deaths. For South Carolina our rates for disease of the heart and stroke are just as alarming. Heart disease and stroke account for over forty percent of all deaths in the state. The data also shows that African-Americans carry a disproportionate burden of CVD deaths, hospitalizations, and risk factors.

In the section below, we provide reports, data, and statistics detailing the impact of cardiovascular disease on South Carolina. More resources will be added to this section as they become available, so be sure to check back often.
