Beaufort County Rabies Clinics a great success
Many thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s Beaufort County Rabies Clinics a great success. A total of 3247 pets were vaccinated against rabies at these DHEC-sponsored clinics held throughout the county.
Dr. Allen Henry, Dr. Paul Lauricella, Dr. Frank Murphy, Dr. Edward Lambert, Dr. Sybil Davis, Dr. Curtis Hennessey, and Dr. Benjamin Parker, as well as their assistants, worked diligently every Saturday during the month of April, vaccinating an average of one pet per minute.
Taking the necessary preventive steps against rabies is crucial. Rabies is a fatal disease for animals as well as humans.
Be a responsible pet owner and help reduce the risk of rabies in Beaufort County. Keep your dogs, cats and ferrets vaccinated against rabies. Keep pets indoors or in fenced areas. Keeping pets spayed or neutered reduces the numbers of unwanted cats and dogs as well as reduces the pet's natural tendency to roam. Stay away from stray or wild animals and do not attempt to feed, pet, or capture stray or wild animals.
If you are scratched or bitten, please contact your physician and DHEC’s Region 8 office at (843) 525-7627.
Remember, rabies is a fatal disease that cannot be treated, only prevented.
