DHEC’s Region 7 announces ‘Freedom from Smoking’ program

CHARLESTON — A free eight-week “Freedom from Smoking” class will begin in Summerville on Wednesday, Oct. 25, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Region 7 announced today.

“We will offer the American Lung Association’s “Freedom from Smoking” program,” said Martha Dunlap, health educator with DHEC’s Region 7 Public Health. “For many years the American Lung Association has been helping people stop smoking with this program. During the classes we emphasize long-term freedom from smoking. We use a step-by-step method for changing behavior and quitting smoking. Each participant develops an individual plan.”

Dunlap, who teaches the course, said the classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays at DHEC’s Dorchester County Public Health Department (Summerville Clinic). The clinic is located at 500 N. Main St., Suite 9, in Summerville.

Register for this free program by calling Martha Dunlap at (843) 746-3875.
